Ethics

If a lot of people are doing it? does it mean such act is ethical? Being a computer teacher I am faced with this dilemma. This is one question that I might not be able to answer (well before actually) as it is really a question of the acceptability of the act to the general public. One example of an act that is being done by a lot of people is utilizing unlicensed software. Many people are using unlicensed software and this problem is not only use of such unlicensed software for personal use but we sometimes see offices, institutions and companies utilize unlicensed software in the performance of their function. So now the question is, if majority, say 99%, in your community is doing it, is the act ethical?

In my own personal opinion such act is not ethical, this is because of the fact that I based my determination of what is ethical or not on the golden rule which is "Do unto others what you want others do unto you." The act of utilizing unlicensed software means that you are using a product of hard-work and thus you should give due recognition to that hard work by paying for the license. How would you like it if other people would be eating the food that you prepared for yourself or for your family exclusively? Or if you have developed an invention that will save mankind from environmental destruction and ultimately you did not get any recognition for it because others who have never lifted a finger took that recognition?

How would you like to be treated? This is the question that was posed by John Maxwell in his blog and I believe this question summarizes ethics, for me.

My GLOBE New Year's Resolution

Take action, I think this would best describe my new year's resolution. Have you ever thought of the statement "New Year's Resolution are meant to be broken"? Most of us do have a new years resolution heck we even boast about keeping this every year however after the first month many have already forgotten their resolution. I for one boasted some years back that I will start to remember my friend's birthdays and every important event in their life (in short i will be a lot more social), guess what, I never attended any birthday celebration to which I was invited on that year.

If new year's resolution are meant to be broken why make one anyway? Well, I realized now that new year's resolutions are made, conjured, written and or extensively thought-of because of the fact that at the back of our mind we really do want to integrate change in our life for the new year. The only thing that made us break these resolutions is our inaction, yes, resolutions most of the time only get as far as our thoughts. Inaction always gets the best of us, that is why for this year my new year's resolution is Take Action! and Make my resolutions happen. I guess I would start by fulfilling my previous resolutions way back several years ago, and thanks to the power of the internet, social media and several other sorts of technology (some of which are still being invented) I can now connect with all my friends wherever they are and the beauty of that is I could connect with them and even attend their birthday parties virtually or in person. Connecting with my friends online would of course require the use of an internet connection thanks to Globe's Superstick (yes this is a new technology invented) i am powered with 3 Mbps internet speed which I can also share with my family and friends so that together we could take action and start connecting with our friends and love ones.

Mind Control

Zombies are fictitious being that are portrayed by several movies (and games) as someone or something that is controlled by its insatiable thirst for flesh...or brains...these characters are exhibited as a person or a human being that have lost all sense of intellect and emotions as if it is being controlled by that someone or something...now the question is are there zombies in our midst?
If we are to talk about zombies in its literal context then no it is just fiction (or is it?) but in the context of a person under the spell of mind control then maybe...well let's not be hypocrites...there are! For these zombies to exist there are at least two people involved the manipulator and the manipulated (hmm...). You may not know or realize it but at one point in time you may have been either one of them, simple things like persuading your friend to pay for a meal because you egged him to; made you the manipulator and your friend the "zombie". However these simple zombie intervals are sometimes acceptable depending on the frequency of the act of course, but what is not acceptable is if a person is being constantly manipulated in order to achieve personal whims and caprices and trampling upon the rights and dignity of other people in the process. This act is unacceptable, frankly a very despicable act and a very poor display of integrity as well as character.

We have lots of zombies and manipulators we need not look far we have them and sometimes what is disheartening is that many of our leaders are turned into zombies by lobbyists from giant corporations who are deemed to be manipulators. That made me realize our zombies are not screaming BRAINS...but rather...MONNEEYYY...how I wish our present leadership would really make good of his promise of cleaning the government...getting rid of zombies and ghost employees...
For now we could only hope, but I also believe that through proper investment eliminating these zombies and manipulators is possible, so to our country's investment...the hope of our motherland, the next generation, here are some advices:

1. Always know where you stand and fight for what you believe is right, stand your ground never be swayed by devious, "flowering" words for which its aim is to flatter you.
2. Think before you act.
3. Listen to both sides of the story and if possible listen to ALL sides of the story before you make any assumptions or judgments. The saying "do not judge a book by its cover" is true...manipulators can put on the disguise of a "friend" but in truth and in fact would later on be revealed as a fiend once they get what they want.
4. Always build up and maintain integrity and character. The statement "good guys finish last" is a NOT TRUE...

John Maxwell has offered what i believe is an antidote to being manipulated and to becoming a manipulator and I quote:

"Stay focused instead of getting offended or off track by others."
— John C. Maxwell

Wait A Minute! Pulps! The Minute Maid Pulpy Experience

I just drank a bottle of Minute Maid Pulpy. They say it’s got ‘no preservatives added’. Aw, c’mon…It’s bottled juice. Is that even possible? So I thought maybe... It is just one of those marketing ploy

I didn’t believe it the first time I heard it’s got no preservatives added.  So I read the ingredients (even the fine print) and everything checked out! It really has NO PRESERVATIVES ADDED!  That means it doesn’t have ingredients that may turn out to be allergens, or worse...carcinogens!  Whew! Now that’s healthy goodness that tastes so good, I... love the true orange flavor and that refreshing feeling that you get upon drinking and also of course those army of pulps that just bursts orange freshness inside your mouth

So okay, it’s got no preservatives added. That’s really good, right?  Not just because it doesn’t have those icky, harmful ingredients, but it also means... that you are drinking a healthy beverage that comes only from natural oranges

So far anyone who still has a hard time believing that Minute Maid has got no preservatives added - meaning it's THAT natural, it's almost like it's plucked straight from the tree, it's just as Mother Nature wanted your orange juice to be, it's got nothing but the good stuff yes, none of those potentially toxic stuff that can harm your brain, kidneys, heart; cause tumors aargh- the list of preservatives' bad effects just go on!!! Anyway, just to prove a point on just how good Minute Maid Pulpy is 'cause it's got NO PRESERVATIVES ADDED, I'm gonna continue on drinking Minute Maid Pulpy Orange and will also recommend this to my friends and family because i believe such recommendation is a recommendation to start living a healthy life.

Feels good to know about the real pulpy deal, right? C’mon show me a smile on the comment box, and you might win yourself a Really Pulpy Deal! (That’s a chance to win a Minute Maid gift pack simply by commenting. Sweet! C'mon you just might be picked as the lucky 'commentor'!)

Love,

Teacher Vince

What Drives You?

My title sounds like a commercial plug from a gasoline company, but this actually is a very meaningful statement for me. For several years now I have been getting up early in the morning to prepare to go to school, this time not to sit on an armchair but to teach. I just realize that I spent almost 10 years of my life just to get up in the morning, drag my feet, dodge vehicles and people just to reach my destination...school. After seven years or so I am back to the same routine, wake up, drag my feet and dodge vehicles to reach the same destination. People who knows me very well would sometimes ask why I chose to become a teacher and suffer the "routine" all over again...well I really do not have any prepared answer for such a question, but one thing is certain something is driving...err...motivating me to do the "routine" and funny thing is I never get tired of doing it...I guess something is fueling me to do what I do, and I believe that is true motivation and passion. So I guess what I am trying to say is sometimes it would be good to ask and remind yourself What Drives You?

Quest for a DSLR Camera Bag

One of the gift that I got for myself last Christmas of 2010 was a Digital SLR Camera, for many months (or years) I have been yearning to owning a Digital SLR camera. This longing for such gadget emanated from the fact that I have laid out my plan to utilize my own original pictures for my websites, my blogs and well for photo contests. December 22, 2010 I finally got the opportunity to buy a simple DSLR Camera and I never thought that buying a DSLR camera would also entail the purchase of so many accessories. Although there are freebies that would come along with the DSLR camera that I’ve bought I found out that there is one important thing that is missing from the myriad of accessories that I bought, that is, a DSLR camera bag. After scouring the malls for several hours for a nice, durable but cheap DSLR camera bag, I found nothing that would fit my standards, I gave up my search as I’ve said to myself I would not be needing one immediately anyway.

After several days of using my DSLR camera I realized that I really would need a DSLR camera bag so after a failed search in the malls here in Baguio I decided to let my fingers do the searching via the internet. After doing a simple broad Google search using the phrase bags for sale the search engine returned several related search results but one thing caught my attention, an imported Universal DSLR Camera Bag for sale at a very low price. The item looks interesting enough and convincing especially that the image provided by the seller at AyosDito.ph included a photo of the DSLR Camera similar to what I bought last Christmas. Hmmm…if only I searched the internet first and visited buy and sell websites like AyosDito.ph and searched for bags for sale then I would have saved time, money and energy looking for that elusive DSLR camera bag.

Benefits of Technology - Bringing the Pacquiao - Margarito fight online

I am not a fan of boxing entirely, I just enjoy watching our very own Manny Pacquiao fight in the ring. Call it Pinoy pride, as a Filipino I alway felt that every time the boxing icon wins a Championship belt he brings honor not only to himself and his family but to the entire Filipino people.

This November 14, 2010 our very own Manny Pacquiao will again step into the ring and will try to accomplish a feat that has never been done in the field of boxing and that is to win (hopefully) an eighth world title. Many Filipino's are preparing for this event and even now you will see several establishments offering to show the Pacquiao - Margarito fight in pay-per-view, expect however that these places will be swamped with people and you might not have a front row view of the fight.

For those who would rather stay home there are some other alternative and these are:
A. To avail of the pay-per-view services of your local cable company, which might be something that could prove to be expensive.

B. Watch the Pacquiao - Margarito fight through the Online
Of course we would like to support legal live streaming of the event and luckily for us who are connected with PLDT the company offers livestreaming of the Pacquiao-Margarito fight on November 14, 2010 through their watchpad service. For those subscribed a connection speed of 768kbps or higher is required for optimized viewing of the fight. Those who are subscribed in Plan 990 an upgrade to plan 1299 is required.
